Are looking to grow spiritually? Are you sure you’re ready? Even though we should all seek growth, it might be a good idea to examine our motives first. Do you want to grow spiritually to have more influence or control? Do you want to grow in order to avoid pain? Or do you want to grow so you can love more and serve more — even if it comes at the cost of suffering?

Growth means being renewed. It’s taking all your knowledge, experience and failures and giving it up to a new stage of life. If you entrust this process to God and rest in his ways, then growth is guaranteed.

It’s a day-to-day process. It’s tearing down your personal ideologies and letting the Spirit of God be fully expressed. Be a “grown up” child of God, and bring forth an abundant harvest.

PRAYER FOR SPIRITUAL GROWTH

Oh loving Lord,

I’ve come this far, what now? The first steps in your presence were heavenly.

Then life returns. It still hurts. Are you just a dream?

Then I stop and think of you, of what you did for me.

How you know me and love me despite my shame and failure.

I remember your glory shown to me so many times. And your Spirit rises up in me again, for you are generous and good.

Renew me, oh Lord. Let me return to the first love, Christ forever in my heart.

May it be a new beginning. Let me accept and understand in a deeper way, oh Lord, what you plan for me.

May I return to your cross to be cleansed again – and to know what it means to carry mine.

You are my Lord. You are faithful.

By your grace alone I can be faithful too.

Is worldly pressure trying to rob you of your identity? Sometimes we are under so much stress that we forget completely about ourselves. Maybe you’re too busy. Or perhaps people want to control you. In the end you might lose a sense of who you are.

When this happens, return to the basics. Think about what’s really most important to you. Re-establish your core roles. Above all, build upon your identity as a child of God. This means spending time in his presence. So seek him.

Time spent with God allows you to understand and feel his love for you. You begin to realize how much you mean to him. The Lord’s faithfulness gives you confidence to be yourself.

PRAYER FOR ME TO BE MYSELF

Oh heavenly Lord,

Why am I so unsatisfied? Why is it so hard for me to be me? Yes, I have sinned against you. I know you forgive me. But there’s something else.

I reject myself even though Jesus doesn’t.

So I ask you, oh loving Lord, give me a heart like Christ’s. Help me accept myself for who I am, here, now. Free me from my desire to copy others and please everyone else.

I want to be a better me. Show me what’s really mine. My faults, my virtues. Then mold me, oh Lord, shape me and make me confident as a child of God.

And may it all manifest in acts of kindness, mercy and love. Let my life glorify you, oh Lord, and bring more souls to your heavenly banquet.

By your grace alone,

If you feel like giving thanks, then let it all out. Praise our heavenly Lord! When God reveals his kindness in a special way, you just have to raise your arms and give thanks and praise.

Even if you don’t feel particularly good, give praise to God anyway. Many times Scripture shows us how God’s people overcame challenges by giving praise. Even when their backs were against the wall, their greatest spiritual weapon was to praise Almighty God.

When you feel it, do it. And even when you don’t feel like it, do it anyway. God is worthy, and he will respond.

PRAYER OF THANKS AND PRAISE

Oh my loving Lord,

My heart bursts with joy as you have blessed me. All I had to do was say “yes” to your love. And then came the outpouring of your Spirit over me.

Yes, there are trials and struggle and pain.

But above and through it all,

Giving meaning to it all,

Is my mighty Savior, my Christ, my Lord.

My soul rests in you. I’m nourished and full. And when the difficulty comes, I am ready. I am strong. For the Word of God burns in my heart.

I need nothing more. I have it all – the love of God given to me in great abundance. Come what may, my soul is content. For I know who I am and where I’m going.

The promise of God gives me life everlasting.

Strapped for time? Who isn’t these days? One thing you can’t create is more time, but you can be more efficient. But how?

Time spent in prayer is time gained. You may not think you have time to pray, but the closer your relationship is with God, the more focused you are. You have more peace. Since your mind is clear, you don’t get so frustrated either. Plus, you learn to wait for the right moment when things might flow easier. Not everything has to be done now.

Go to God. Let him organize your thoughts and your life. It all begins by trusting in his goodness.

PRAYER FOR TIME MANAGEMENT

Oh heavenly Lord,

My life is hectic and messy. I never have enough time. Am I wasting time?

Guide me, oh Lord. Bring order to my mind and life. Establish your priorities in my heart. Help me focus on the essential.

Let me seek you first, oh loving Lord.

May your Word teach me and your Spirit guide me. May your Kingdom come to me to drive out waste and confusion.

Show me when to ask for help or when to say no.

Keep me sharp and focused. Give me strength, oh Lord, to resist the temptations that lead me away from your will.

Your Son gives me eternal life, but my time on earth is short. So manage my time, oh Lord, as you see fit.

I can do all things through you, as I am saved by Christ and loved by God.

When the enemy rises up against you, what’s your reaction? Do you get scared or nervous? Maybe you withdraw or lash out. There comes a time in everyone’s life when you feel under attack. It may or may not be from a specific person. Either way, you feel the aggression.

Instead of getting upset and fearful, return good for bad. Show the face of mercy, even to those you disagree with. When you feel an overabundance of negativity, return fire with an outpouring of love. This doesn’t mean you can’t be firm in your convictions, but your strength comes from a heavenly source.

If you try this on your own, it probably won’t happen. Or it will feel forced. Instead, be filled by the Holy Spirit, and let him do the work. You are the instrument. You are the manifestation of God’s loving Spirit on the earth. All of this is possible thanks to the great victory Christ won for your soul.

Oh mighty Lord,

The enemy rises like a river to knock me down. It’s all too much for me. Alone, I will be crushed.

Are you facing an intense moment in your life? Stress can lead to a wide range of problems including anxiety, panic and depression. Even worse, the pressure of life can tempt us to look for answers that exclude God from our lives.

It’s hard, but instead of looking at a pressure filled moment as something all bad, see it as an opportunity. It’s a chance to grow in your relationship with Christ and as a person. Tough moments are when the Spirit of God shines brilliantly.

You might be at your wits end, but don’t give in. Instead, dig in and go to God. In his presence, you will find the strength and insight to get through hard times.

Oh heavenly Lord,

The trials of my life gather like storm clouds. I know, oh Lord, what’s ahead.

Through your Word and presence may your Spirit transform me.

I want to do it my way and fix things fast. Instead let me wait upon you. Let this process break down the barriers I hide behind when all I need is your loving grace.

Let your love form my character and give me courage to stand firm.

It could be chores at home, on the job or at church. Or maybe you are helping a family member. There is much work to be done. You have things to do. Sometimes though, it’s overwhelming.

Yes, God can work miracles and make things easier, but there is no guarantee of this. One thing the Lord does promise is that his Spirit goes with those who trust him. If something unexpected happens to lighten your load, wonderful. If not, be strengthened by the Creator and get your work done.

You can do it. God goes with you!

Are you your own worst enemy? Why do we sabotage ourselves so much? As if the world wasn’t negative enough, we add to the bad news.  We tell ourselves that we never do anything right, and we lose hope.

Sometimes just telling yourself that it’s not true isn’t enough. Sometimes you need more. In those dark moments, go back to the core of your faith. Even if everything is really going bad, never, ever give up your faith. Dig in and hold tight.

If you think you’ve lost your faith, think again. Look. It’s right there. Pick it up.

Just for an instant, block out all the clutter and noise. Forget about your situation and remember Christ on the cross for you. Open your heart and see the empty tomb. Be restored by the Spirit of God and believe again.

Are you having trouble accepting a person or situation in your life? Sometimes we confuse acceptance with agreement. You might not like something, but that doesn’t change reality. So what can you do?

A lot of times, the fight is in  our minds. A circumstance bothers us so much that it takes away our peace. And there’s the secret. No situation can give you lasting, permanent peace because situations change all the time.

Only in Christ do we find true rest. This is proven over and over again in believers that get through the most difficult situations only by trusting in God.

If you are facing something, or someone, you find hard to accept,  remember this: now is not forever.

Accept the reality of today, since denying reality never really helps. Then go to the Lord to keep your hope alive for tomorrow.

Prayer to accept things I can’t change

My heavenly Lord,

The way things are right now are not how I want them to be.

It’s all too painful. It’s a mess. Is this want you want for me?

I struggle with acceptance. I’ve been hurt for so long. Don’t you see me, oh Lord?

Show me that acceptance only means now, not forever. Some things won’t change today.

For now, oh Lord, care for my heart. For where your love is anything is possible, and my soul flies free.

Help me to accept things today. May I find rest in your Word.

As long as it takes, I’ll wait and pray.

Your Spirit gives me hope that never leaves and never dies. \

No matter what happens, no matter how much it hurts, your peace is with me.

Life is not so heavy, not so dark, as in Christ resurrected my spirit is born again.

Feeling worn out? These days it’s all too common to feel run down and overwhelmed. Life is filled with activity, responsibility… and problems. Sometimes you can’t change your circumstances. So what can you do?

In times of mental and physical fatigue, it’s hard to pray. Still, if you make the effort, time spent with God restores you. You might not have tons of energy, but your soul will be more at ease. And that’s a huge benefit. Peace with God helps keep you going, even despite the demands of life.

In Christ, your soul can rest. Let this truth take hold of your heart. Rest in the loving arms of the Lord.
