Prayer to be a servant of God

Many wonder, “Why does God allow suffering?”

How far would you push God to remove suffering? At what point would you think that he has met your standards? If he removed all cancer, would that be enough? What about accidents? Hunger and war? Where would you limit your demands upon the Creator of all things?

Do you want perfection from God? If so, then you would be completely out of the picture. Your would not be able to help anyone ever. Everything would be still, sterile and dead. Jesus could have come down from the cross to establish 100% order and control — but he choose the path of sacrificial love instead.

Rather than complaining about God, be part of his solution. No matter what your situation, you can find meaning in service. It might be simply to your family, or something more. In every case, go to God and ask him what he asks of you. Then go forward and represent Christ on earth.

Prayer to deal with confrontation

If you see something wrong, what do you do about it? Do you speak up or keep quiet? Are you afraid or angry? Before you confront a person about anything, consider these questions:

  • Is the mistake, or sin, something obvious?
  • Are you a first hand witness?
  • Was the mistake a one time occurence, or repeated?
  • Have you resolved significant failure in your life?
  • Would silence speak louder than words?

You don’t have to be perfect to correct someone, but you should have the right motives. If you have feelings of anger, resentment, or vengeance, then it’s better to wait.

Resist the temptation to mix in other issues you might have. Instead, be very specific. Your primary goal should be to restore the person. Like Jesus, using a clear strategy keeps you free of Satan’s traps. During the entire process, be prayerful. Let God show you the way.

Prayer to filled by God’s Spirit

Do you have a lot of responsibilities piling up? It all just seems like too much sometimes, doesn’t it? Don’t seek perfection or reliance on yourself alone. Seek God instead.

You might not have the time, but make the time. Ask God to fill you with his Spirit. Then you will see things more clearly. You’ll be more organized. When God is your first priority, he shows you how to prioritize your life.

So cry up and out to him. And even if you fall short or make a mistake, you know he is there to lift you up again. Our God is mighty, great and loving. Praise his holy name!

Hold on tight

For millions of Christians around the world, Easter week represents the most important truths about our faith… the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

Take time to mediate upon the events surrounding the last days of Jesus’ earthly ministry. What does the cross of Christ mean to you? How does its significance apply to your circumstances now?

Never lose hope in the resurrection. Still, you can’t get there without the cross. They are like two sides of the same coin. One is obedience, sacrifice, mercy, redemption, and love. The other side is the Glory of God.

Prayer for a fresh start

Stuck in a rut? Does it seem like you just can’t move forward? Maybe you’re tired or overwhelmed. Or you might feel like life is stale with nothing new or exciting. When this happens, be careful not to fall into a trap. In moments when you feel stuck or bored, temptations often appear. Don’t make a mistake. Return to God. Stay strong and faithful.

Here are some ideas you can try:

  • Participate in a spiritual retreat
  • Begin a prayer campaign (example: dedicate a set amount of time to prayer every day for a week or longer)
  • Join a Bible study or prayer group
  • Offer your service at church or a charity

In all things, intensify your relationship with Jesus. Yes, it requires effort, but the rewards are heavenly.

Prayer for those who persecute you

If you are facing any kind of persecution, turn to God for help. No matter how difficult the situation, your prayers make a difference. God hears your prayer, and he helps you deal with any aggression. Whether it’s a miracle or just to give you strength, the Lord will not abandon you. These situations almost never end quickly, so rest upon the Word of God.

This doesn’t mean there is any excuse for abuse. You don’t have to tolerate an abusive relationship. Still, be careful to avoid any desire for vengeance. Seek the Spirit’s guide in how to respond. Also, talk to a trusted spiritual guide or friend about these things.

If you are being persecuted for your faith, remain strong… and rejoice! Today, it can be harder than ever to follow Christ. If you stay faithful, he will show you how.

Prayer for when I am under pressure

You have  responsibilities, but you don’t seem to have enough time or energy. You can’t escape your reality either. Still, it’s a good idea to discern where you might be wasting time. You can’t solve everyone’s problems.

No doubt, there are things you can’t avoid. You have to face them. And when it seems to be too much, it’s even more important to spend time in God’s presence. You might feel you don’t have the time, but in the end it saves you time. God gives you a clear mind. This makes you more efficient. You worry less and have more energy. Resist the temptation to try to do it on your own.

Yes, you suffer. Of course it’s hard. But if you let God’s Spirit work in you, then your character in Christ becomes stronger. Go to him. Rest in the Lord. Then face your challenges with confidence in God.

In the darkest night

For those that suffer greatly, there are no words that can truly help. Only you fully understand your situation and pain. Seek help from those you trust, but above all, cry out and find strength in the Lord.

Prayer to remain steady

The worries of this world make you feel hurried. Even too many good things can take away your peace. Duties and problems appear, and it seems like you just can’t keep up.

Ask God to guide you. Let him show you where you can say “no” and set limits. You can’t be everywhere for everything. Remember, God is in control. Trust in this. Let him do the heavy lifting.

This doesn’t mean you ignore your responsibilities. Instead, the Spirit blows away the clutter and keeps you focused. You see where you should be and what you should do. The rest is in God’s hands… as are you.

Prayer to live by grace

For many Christians, today marks the beginning of Lent. It may be a time when you decide to commit to fasting or give up a bad habit. Or you might seek to get free of negative behavior or attitudes.

If you do this out of obligation, it might help you. But if you make a change because of love, then miraculous things can happen. Even though you can’t force it, you can pray for it. Ask God to mold your heart. Let his grace transform you and purify your motives.

Instead of saying, “I have to,” let your heart say, “I want to. I want to because I am loved by a great God who sent his Son to save me. Now I can love in return.”
