Prayer for the defenseless

We all have problems to deal with. Some much more than others. But what about those around us? What about the weak and the helpless? There are so many victims out there. Do we wait for God to act while we do nothing?

Maybe God wants to act through you. Maybe he wants to make a difference through your life. This gives you meaning and purpose.

Open yourself up to give. Show the glory of the Lord by your good works. Be Christ in this fallen world, and watch the heavens open up before you.

Prayer for when you are hurt

Have you felt loss or betrayal? These emotions hurt since something is gone that cannot return. It could be a person, or a sense of trust. When human weakness and fragility hit home, it shakes your foundations.

Even God has felt hurt and pain. For this the blood of Christ poured out over all humanity — to cleanse, to heal, and to bring freedom. No matter what your situation, no matter how confusing it seems, the Spirit of the Lord will explain it to you. You might not understand it with your head, but he will give you peace in your heart.

Prayer for the little ones

Who are the little ones? She might be the mom holding together a household in crisis. Or maybe he’s the son caring for a sick parent… or someone waiting and praying for their loved to break free from addiction. The little ones are those that save our fallen world every day from shattering into pieces. They are truly Christ-like since they depend totally on God the Father.

Learn from the little ones. Observe them and imitate them. And if you are one of them, then may the Lord bless you abundantly. The little ones are those closest to the heart of Christ.

Seek His Face

In any difficult situation, you might be tempted to give up hope. It takes an effort to dig deep into your faith and find the strength to go on. Sometimes it even seems illogical to look for God’s presence.

Don’t give up. Run to him. Never, ever substitute your time with God for worldly solutions. Yes, you have to live your life responsibly, but never exclude the Lord. Instead, rest firmly on him and his promises. God acts upon your faith. You can count on it.

Prayer for those facing division

When families or churches have disagreements, how do you react? Do you immediately takes sides and fight? Or do you cover your eyes and ears pretending there’s no problem? Division in any group is painful, and maintaining unity sometimes requires a huge effort.

How about seeking God’s will instead? How about praying for all sides involved, especially those you disagree with? When Jesus prayed, he prayed for all those that were against him. At one point, we all go against God since we have all sinned.

Ask for forgiveness — for yourself and for your group, church, or family. Then ask God to do his will in all things. Your prayer and your dependence on God should be your first priority. Then build everything else out from this.

Prayer for when you need to concentrate

Feel like you just can’t catch up? Sometimes there’s just so much to do that you think you’ll  never make it. In moments like these, it’s harder than ever to stop and focus.

Just stop. At least for a moment. Connect with God the Father and ask for his grace.

Reaffirm your faith in him and his Kingdom in your life — not a life without problems, but a life with Christ at the center to give meaning and perspective to all things.

Prayer for truth

In the political world we see how hard it is to know the truth. It seems as if every channel has a different version. Are you seeking the truth? Maybe you feel like someone is deceiving you or telling lies about you. Or perhaps you feel confused about a situation at home or work.

While truth is important, sometimes it takes a long time to appear.

When you’re faced with troubles and confusion, it’s best to return to eternal truths. From there things become more clear. Your place in the world and your actions are truths you can be sure of. Build your truth based upon your faith in God.

You are called upon to proclaim the truth of Christ. Tell the world what he did for you!

Prayer to be able to change

When looking for a real change, it’s better to start from below. Jesus came down to our level, down to the dirt and mud that is human life. Knowing God also means knowing yourself better. If you recognize a need to change, then explore the source of the problem. For example, being aggressive, fearful, or controlling are symptoms of a deeper issue to be resolved. Get down into the dirt and discover yourself.

Jesus Christ was perfectly humble. The Spirit of God was completely free to do his work in Jesus. The humble heart is the heart that allows the Spirit to enter and work. This takes time. Don’t rush the process, and don’t ignore it either.

When he comes, the Spirit doesn’t need you to to hide the mess or straighten things up. He wants to see the dirt and clutter. Let the Holy Spirit clean the house of your soul.

Prayer to be a servant of God

Many wonder, “Why does God allow suffering?”

How far would you push God to remove suffering? At what point would you think that he has met your standards? If he removed all cancer, would that be enough? What about accidents? Hunger and war? Where would you limit your demands upon the Creator of all things?

Do you want perfection from God? If so, then you would be completely out of the picture. Your would not be able to help anyone ever. Everything would be still, sterile and dead. Jesus could have come down from the cross to establish 100% order and control — but he choose the path of sacrificial love instead.

Rather than complaining about God, be part of his solution. No matter what your situation, you can find meaning in service. It might be simply to your family, or something more. In every case, go to God and ask him what he asks of you. Then go forward and represent Christ on earth.

Prayer to deal with confrontation

If you see something wrong, what do you do about it? Do you speak up or keep quiet? Are you afraid or angry? Before you confront a person about anything, consider these questions:

  • Is the mistake, or sin, something obvious?
  • Are you a first hand witness?
  • Was the mistake a one time occurence, or repeated?
  • Have you resolved significant failure in your life?
  • Would silence speak louder than words?

You don’t have to be perfect to correct someone, but you should have the right motives. If you have feelings of anger, resentment, or vengeance, then it’s better to wait.

Resist the temptation to mix in other issues you might have. Instead, be very specific. Your primary goal should be to restore the person. Like Jesus, using a clear strategy keeps you free of Satan’s traps. During the entire process, be prayerful. Let God show you the way.
