Never forget

Christian teaching gives us many tools to live a more fulfilling and happy life. Still, sometimes we might lose sight of what really matters. We might get caught up in politics, success or activism. Or we might feel crushed by our own failure.

In all of this, the enemy tempts us to put something else at the center of our attention. Then we forget what our faith is all about in the first place.

It’s never too late or never too often to go back to the work of Jesus Christ on the cross. Remember what the resurrection means to you. Upon these basic elements, every good fruit of the Spirit comes forth.

So if you’re caught up in thoughts or activity that distract or stress you — just stop. Stop and return to the bedrock. Let the Spirit of God restore you again and again.

I have said this to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.

John 16:33

But if there is no resurrection of the dead, then Christ has not been raised; if Christ has not been raised, then our preaching is in vain and your faith is in vain.

1 Corinthians 15:13-14

He who does not love does not know God; for God is love. In this the love of God was made manifest among us, that God sent his only Son into the world, so that we might live through him. In this is love, not that we loved God but that he loved us and sent his Son to be the expiation for our sins. Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another.

1 John 4:8-11

Never, ever forget how much you are loved by your Creator, your God.

You may struggle sometimes and even fall, but he lifts you up again.

The Lord is freedom and grace to you. His Spirit reveals a deeper meaning.

Never, ever forget that Jesus died on the cross… and rose again on the third day.

This means everything to your soul. The resurrection is life and truth.

It may seem out of style, or they may try to sell you another gospel, but only one Gospel stays true.

God is love. Jesus is his Son. His blood washes you clean of sin.

Christ is life everlasting.

Believe in God. Love God. Know who you are and where you are going.

This will get you through the darkest times, as you are heaven bound.

Prayer for calm in the storm

Is there deep trouble in your life right now? Are you facing many trials at once? When the storm comes raging, it’s tempting to think all is lost. But wait… and remember.

Go back to the bedrock of your faith. Remember who Jesus is and what he has done for you. Remember who he is — the Son of God — your Savior. Seek shelter in his grace to give you calm and guide your actions.

You won’t find absolute rest in how people treat you or react. A situation won’t give you lasting comfort. Instead, trust in the owner and giver of true peace. After the storm passes, there will be fallen tress and debris, but your faith will remain. It will grow deeper and stronger. Trust in this process.

And there will be signs in sun and moon and stars, and upon the earth distress of nations in perplexity at the roaring of the sea and the waves, men fainting with fear and with foreboding of what is coming on the world; for the powers of the heavens will be shaken. And then they will see the Son of man coming in a cloud with power and great glory. Now when these things begin to take place, look up and raise your heads, because your redemption is drawing near.

Luke 21:25-28

But he who endures to the end will be saved.

Matthew 24:13

My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me; and I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish, and no one shall snatch them out of my hand. My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all, and no one is able to snatch them out of the Father’s hand.I and the Father are one.”

John 10:27-30

And he awoke and rebuked the wind, and said to the sea, “Peace! Be still!” And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm.

Mark 4:39

Oh loving Lord,

The wind and rain come down fast and hard, clouds darken against me. Won’t you help me?

Send me your protection and peace against the chaos. May your grace cover and calm my heart even in the uncertainty.

Send your Spirit to show me that no mater what happens my soul is at rest in the love and mercy of Christ Jesus.

May I wait when I must wait, act when I must act. Let patience and clarity keep my mind focused on your will.

This only happens if I trust you and seek you. So here I am, oh loving Lord, at your feet, under your wing until the storm passes.

Prayer to break free

Even though we all want to be free, sometimes we forget about a crucial question about freedom. If you are free, what do you do with your freedom? If you could do whatever you want, what would you do? Our answers sometimes reveal that our inner struggles are really what keep us enslaved.

The liberty we find in Christ isn’t the kind of freedom the world tries to sell us. It’s not about power or temporary pleasures. Instead, it’s about a deep trust in our Creator. It’s the security of knowing that even though you’ve made mistakes, you are forgiven 100%. You can start again as the Lord makes all things new.

Remember, your freedom came at great cost. So use your freedom to spread love and mercy. Use it to show others they can be free too.

John 8:32

Matthew 10:8

“The Spirit of the Lord is upon me,
because he has anointed me to preach good news to the poor.
He has sent me to proclaim release to the captives
and recovering of sight to the blind,
to set at liberty those who are oppressed,
to proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord.”

Luke 14:18-19

Oh blessed Lord,

I feel trapped and chained. I have nowhere to go. Can you help me? Won’t you set me free?

Show me first, oh Lord, If I must change. Reveal to me if any sin keeps me a slave. Forgive me and set my soul free first.

Then from there, from a place of grace, guide me to where you wish to lead me.

Cast out the enemy, break the chains, open the way with your mighty hand. Oh loving Lord, set this captive free.

Reveal your truth to me, the truth that tells me I am loved, forgiven and Christ lives in me.

Prayer for renewed strength

Feeling run down and tired? Maybe you have a lot of responsibilities, or you might be facing a crisis. Many times, the problem is mental fatigue. You’re tired of worrying and dealing with problems all the time. It’s even harder when a lot of the burden rests on your shoulders alone.

One great thing about faith in God is how he can turn the tables on any situation. He brings us help and relief when we least expect it.

Maybe even more amazing is how the Spirit of God renews us even before our situation changes. He gives us new energy and insight. In many cases, the right attitude alone makes a huge difference. Suddenly, distances seem shorter, and you figure things out will less stress. The Holy Spirit reveals things to you that you never saw before.

In the face of difficulty, living joyfully is a true miracle. So pray for the gift of seeing things from a heavenly perspective. Be renewed in the love of Christ.

Romans 12:2

For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.

2 Timothy 1:7

Oh loving Lord, these are tough times I’m in. Walls close in, and it gets tight. So much to do. Many, many needs. I feel weak and weary.

Won’t you help me, once again?

Show me, oh Lord, a new way. Break down any structure that traps me. Cast out the liar that tells me, “You can’t.”

Open my mind to see with eyes of grace, the hidden shortcut, the open path.

Bring order, oh Lord. Thy Kingdom come.

Make my thoughts quick and nimble. Strengthen my arms to carry the heavy load.

And when I have to wait, let me wait, and rest in my beloved Savior, my Lord.

Alone it’s impossible, but upon the solid Rock I stand.

Strong, confident, I know who I am. God’s child, forgiven, forever free.

When facing a tough situation, you have four basic options:

  • Struggle alone
  • Get help
  • Run away
  • Wait for a miracle to happen
  • Grow

Sometimes, you can’t get much help, but it pays to ask around. Miracles don’t happen everyday, and God may choose not to make one. In all situations, we have to be steadfast in prayer, but some spiritual resources are already there for us if we know where to look.

Even though our abilities are limited and imperfect, we are God’s children. This means something in us contains a part of God. That’s where you can tap into when your energy and drive are exhausted.

God’s grace has no limit. Deepen your belief in this truth. When you let him do the heavy lifting, it’s a lot easier to love and serve. So go to God. Be filled with his loving grace.

In a struggle, a fight, under pressure. Never seeming to get a break. Even everyday chores weigh you down.

So what will you do?

Reaching out and up, you cry out to the Lord. Extend your mighty hand, you say. Deliver me. Save me. Set me free!

And you wait. You pray. And pray some more.

And God answers. He says,

… love more…

Dig down deep. It’s there. A vast storehouse of grace to help you as the Spirit lives in you.

Go, dear child of God, be like the Son.

Be a miracle. Love more.

And then you will be free.

Taking care

If you’ve ever owned a garden, you know it only thrives if you take care of it. Of course, you can’t make the plants grow on your own, but your attention counts. It’s the same with your faith life.

The enemy will try to snuff out your belief. The world will distract you with apparently more important things to do. Don’t believe those lies. Resist. Make the effort to cultivate your faith. Dedicate some time every day. It makes a big difference.

If God is your creator, and Jesus your Savior, don’t they deserve some quality time? The results are more clear thinking and peace in your heart. You resist temptation, and you’re more likely to show mercy. So keep the faith.

Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that in due time he may exalt you. Cast all your anxieties on him, for he cares about you. Be sober, be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking some one to devour. Resist him, firm in your faith, knowing that the same experience of suffering is required of your brotherhood throughout the world.

Matthew 13:45-46

Oh blessed Lord,

In your infinite creation… you looked upon me. Why Lord?

You gave this little one faith. Healed the deep wound. The Spirit of Jesus rushed in. He is alive. And so am I.

I didn’t do anything to deserve my faith. I’m no better than any other. Still, you called me. And your grace let me know it was you.

Show me what to do with this gift, oh Lord.

Help me care for my faith.

Make me hungry for your Word.

Call me again and again to prayer.

Unite me to your Body.

Give me courage to proclaim the Gospel with charity and love.

None of this happens without you, as it all begins with you, and this gift called faith.

Freely given.

Christ rising up to give me new life.

This sinner reborn all for the glory of God.

Prayer to renew my hope

Feeling hopeless might be one of the worst sensations ever. You feel like there’s no solution, or you feel trapped. Or maybe you feel like you’ll never measure up.

When you feel this way, try to break free from putting your problems at the center of your attention. This doesn’t mean you should ignore important issues, but just lay them aside for a moment.

Talk to God. Let him pour out his healing forgiveness and mercy over you. Ask him to bring order to your thoughts and feelings. When you are restored and strong, you can return to the problem with a healthier perspective.

From the wounds of Christ we receive his peace. Never lose hope in our resurrected Lord.

Psalm 31:24

Oh blessed Lord,

I see my life. Today. Now. Am I happy? Is this where I want to be? Is this who I want to be?

Today is a snapshot in time. Let me not be frozen here, oh Lord. This is not the last chapter in my life.

In all things, renew my hope.

I can change. So can others. Let me believe and trust in this. No matter how long it takes. Never perfect, may I move forward in the flow of your grace.

Let me see myself now, for who I truly am. No more hidden failures. No more empty dreams. Your victory planted in my soul.

Here, today, I rise up again with Christ.

One day I will be with you. One day I won’t even need hope any more. But for now, may my hope remain strong and free.

Free in knowing you are with me. You are my Master, my Lord.

My hope in Jesus keeps me going until heaven comes.

Prayer to be faith-full

We all want people to be faithful to us. Deep down, we all want to be faithful too. Still, sometimes we fail. This goes far beyond just letting someone down or doing something dishonest. There are lots of ways we can be unfaithful.

For example, just talking bad about someone is not being faithful. Even if someone does something wrong, you don’t have to tell the whole world about it. Some things are best left to be dealt with in  private. Even “harmless” teasing can hurt more than you think. Remember to protect the ones you love and don’t expose them.

Faithfulness can also apply to principles, not just people. In some cases, we have to stand up for what’s right and just.

So how do you avoid things that erode your faithfulness? It all returns to the example of the most faithful one of all. Jesus is the example and source of our faith and faithfulness. Seek him. Know him. And be faithful.

Greater love has no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.

John 15:13

Oh heavenly Lord,

You felt it. They ignored you, looked away. They said they did not know you. They betrayed you with a kiss.

And for me, it cuts both ways.

I’ve felt it. People let me down, stab me in the back. And I even see myself walk by without even saying, “Hello”.

How many times have I denied you? Not caring for others, seeking my own gain, the know-it-all. I’m the thrice denying Peter and even Judas sometimes.

But still, I know…

Your grace pours down.

The heavens open up to me.

And your mercy sets me free.

You only give me love.

And despite the wounds and failures all around,

You are faithful always.

You did not protect your life. You gave it.

Help me, oh loving Christ, to forgive and to give. To have faith and remain faithful,

As my Lord is faithful to me.

Prayer for when life is hard

We all face difficult moments in life, but some have it really tough for a long time. In many circumstances, there’s no real way out. How can you deal with this?

It’s not easy, but the secret is an inner transformation. Yes, you can ask God to change situations, and it may even happen. Still, the Lord is more interested in your heart. He wants to transform you into the best version of yourself. God the Father wants all of his children to be more like his son Jesus.

Once you begin to truly understand the purpose and meaning behind this process, it’s miraculous. You see things from a heavenly perspective as God’s grace works in and through you. Trust and believe in this. Embrace your service and enter into the full blessings of the Lord.

but as servants of God we commend ourselves in every way: through great endurance, in afflictions, hardships, calamities, beatings, imprisonments, tumults, labors, watching, hunger; by purity, knowledge, forbearance, kindness, the Holy Spirit, genuine love, truthful speech, and the power of God; with the weapons of righteousness for the right hand and for the left; in honor and dishonor, in ill repute and good repute. We are treated as impostors, and yet are true; as unknown, and yet well known; as dying, and behold we live; as punished, and yet not killed; as sorrowful, yet always rejoicing; as poor, yet making many rich; as having nothing, and yet possessing everything.

2 Corinthians 6:4-10

Oh blessed Lord,

You know my situation. You know my life. It’s complicated and dense. There’s no way out. Why is this happening to me?

Oh loving Lord, help me. I need you so much right now.

Let me look upon the life and death of Jesus for understanding. He could have run away from the cross. Instead he served. He gave his life.

Let me know Christ, oh Lord. Help me understand that all the answers are in him. In knowing Jesus, I become more like him. I am transformed.

Service, suffering and pain transform into glory.

Only the Spirit can resurrect me.

Nobody sees how I struggle. Nobody but you, oh merciful Lord. Show me the freedom in giving it all up to you. Jesus loved his Father and all humankind. That’s why he suffered and bled.

He gave it all for them. For me.

May the Spirit of God reveal to me a deeper hope and joy in giving my life for others.

Lift up and hold this poor spirit, oh loving Lord.

Let me know that in your arms, I have all I need.

Prayer to rise up

Dragged down by the worries and troubles of life? Having faith doesn’t mean easy solutions. Instead, faith in God answers questions that burn deep in your heart. This goes beyond people and circumstances. It let’s you move forward even in the most difficult situations.

A relationship with Jesus is never superficial. You might struggle to accept certain things, and that’s understandable. Still, Jesus’ example speaks to us in a place that goes beyond the present moment… even beyond the pain. Or maybe it helps us understand the pain in a new way.

The fruit of this process – of trusting and depending more on God – is heavenly. It makes your character strong. It gives you clarity and direction. And the Spirit guides you to be a blessing and messenger of salvation. It’s God’s mercy living in and through you.
