Prayer for guidance and direction

When facing an important decision, take the time for communion with God to help you make wise choices. Jesus did this all the time, and his example is always good.

You might think you don’t have time to pray, but in the end it saves time. Including God in your decision making gives you peace and confidence. Also, it helps you avoid mistakes that would take up even more time later.

It also helps to talk to people you trust about your situation. They don’t have to tell you exactly what to do. But talking about it helps organize your thoughts. Don’t just talk to people who will tell you what you want to hear. Seek wise and sincere advice instead.

Maybe the best thing about consulting with God in prayer is that it builds your relationship with him. It enables you to hear what he has to say to your heart. And it lets you know even more how much he loves you and wants to help you.

PRAYER FOR GUIDANCE AND DIRECTION

O blessed Lord,

I must decide & make choices. Things aren’t clear to me. So I seek your presence now. Won’t you guide me?

Free my heart, O Lord, of any fear and worry. Let me know first that I am your beloved child.

Remove the clutter in my mind. Give me focus and clarity. Free me of any selfish desires or any temptation to compromise my values.

May your Spirit show me what best serves your will, O Lord. May I be guided to choose what is faithful to your purposes and plans.

Speak to me, O Lord, in your Word and in signs to guide me along the path of grace that is Christ Jesus.

May my decision delight you, O loving Lord, in obedience and service to love.

I pray for this in Jesus’ name,

Prayer to get closer to God

Relationships are about time and commitment. When these things are present, the bonds grow deeper. To get closer to God, it means you trust in his plans and processes.

If you feel far from God, make the decision to get closer. Devote time to an authentic conversation with him in prayer. Listen to what he has to say in the Holy Scriptures.

As you get to know God more, you will feel his closeness. You will feel his loving grace.

Remember, our heavenly Father is always seeking to get closer to you. He sent his Son Jesus specifically for this purpose.

And once you get closer, make the next move. Let your heart be open to get closer to others and share the love of the Lord.

PRAYER TO GET CLOSER TO GOD

O merciful Lord,

I’m feeling lonely & distant. I want to get closer to you, but it’s hard for me. Please help me, O Lord.

Let me not be afraid to look inside. You see and love me, as I am. I am a child of God.

Give me the confidence that you come for me to heal me and set me free. There is nothing to fear in your merciful love.

Draw me closer, O Lord, in your Word & loving grace. Let me come to you and rest. Let me give up all my weariness and shame into the wounds of Christ.

I open myself up to you. In my weakness you make me strong. In trusting you, you enter my heart. And I am never alone.

In the name of Jesus I pray,

Prayer for uncertain times

We all know things aren’t so stable these days.  The world seems to be more unpredictable than ever. It’s hard to keep up with everything, isn’t it? And our own lives aren’t always so organized either. For some, the uncertainty even reaches extreme levels.

During uncertain times, it helps to focus on what you can be sure of.  The amazing thing is that you can be sure of eternal truths. And from there, you can find peace and strength.

Embed the God’s truths firmly in your heart. Be certain. Be sure. Be free.

PRAYER FOR UNCERTAIN TIMES

O blessed Lord,

Everything is so complex, everything so unstable. What will tomorrow bring? Should I even care anymore?

Teach my heart again, O Lord, that life is fragile and uncertain. I am limited, my life a gift. When I seek certainty, may your Spirit show me how.

Let me be certain, that I am thankful.

Let me be certain, that I am loved.

Let me be certain, that I can love others.

Let me build upon these truths to quiet my doubts & fears.

God is love. Christ has died and risen. Christ will come again. And I am a child of God.

These truths will never fade, and in them I am certain. I am secure.

A Blessing for the New Year

Blessings to all those who subscribe to PrayerForAnxiety!

I was preparing to post a new prayer today, but I saw many people were accessing a New Year’s prayer from a past post. I read it, and it applies very much to our current times.

Some of you might have never seen it, so I’m posting it again.

Let us be prepared for 2021. May the Lord help us to anticipate the events to come instead of things catching us off guard. We can’t have all the answers, but we can be more solid spiritually.

It will be a year full of new challenges and opportunities. Get closer to God and be ready, come what may.

The abundant grace and blessings of Christ to you.

NEW YEAR’S REFLECTION AND PRAYER

As the old year ends and a new one begins, take time.

Time to remember the struggles you faced, and mistakes you might have made, and maybe even loved ones you lost.

In every year, you experience heartache. This one was no different.

And in remembering, find a seed of hope hidden in yesterday.

Remember how you’ve been blessed. Re-live when you found unexpected strength. Recall where you saw God’s great Spirit at work, and know his mercy kept you going all this time.

Recognize his mercy. Ask for his peace.

The peace that pours out every moment of every day from the wounds of Christ.

Prepare us Lord for the New Year. Lift us up and place in our hearts a renewed desire to know and worship you more.

Give us your abundant grace. Shower us with your healing love.

May your eternal Kingdom reign in our hearts and our lives. May the New Year show us once again your eternal mercy and glory.

And let us sing your praises with great joy.

Prayer to be assertive

What scares you? What makes you afraid in situations when you have to speak up or stand your ground?

Maybe you fear being embarrassed or rejected. Or maybe you are afraid people will make fun of you. Maybe old wounds have made you timid or shy.

Here’s something to remember. When you talk about your own personal experience, nobody can shut you down. When you share something you have lived through, you have absolute authority. Nobody can tear down the truth you know about your own life.

So start there. Speak from your personal experience. This doesn’t mean you have to open your heart up to everyone. But when something comes up that you have lived through, you can speak up with confidence.

And overall, build your trust in the Lord. Spend time in his presence and ask for his mercy. Then ask to trust more in him. Let him show you what it means to be assertive in the eyes of God.

PRAYER TO BE ASSERTIVE

O merciful Lord,

Sometimes I feel timid and afraid to speak up. I isolate myself alone. Why am I afraid? What holds me back?

Let me grow in my trust in you, O blessed Lord. Let the truth of your love and mercy reach down deep into my heart.

Let me know that I do not have to be afraid. I am loved by my Creator. You set me free from shame. Condemnation has no power over me.

By the blood of Christ, I am free.

Break the chains of fear, O Lord. I can speak truth. I can act with courage. I can be brave, as the Lord goes with me.

Not better, not worse than anyone, I am a child of God. My soul stands firm on the Rock that is Christ my Lord.

Prayer for preparation

What are you getting ready for? A test, meeting, or conversation? Maybe you are preparing for a celebration, and it’s stressing you out. No matter the situation, if you pray about it first, things will be more clear.

Go ahead. Go to God and pour out all your fears, worries, and desires. Let it all out at his feet. Then, in his presence, he will begin to put things in order. His Spirit will guide you and prepare your heart.

Sometimes situations won’t change right away. But when you pray, you change. Your mind and heart see Christ at the center of your life. And this puts it all into the right perspective.

So get ready. Go to God and let him prepare you.

PRAYER FOR PREPARATION

O merciful Lord,

Here I am. I am facing a situation, and I seek your presence. I ask for guidance.

First, let me open my heart to your Holy Spirit. May he put my thoughts and feelings in order. Let the Kingdom of God come alive in me.

Let me know above all things that I am forgiven, that I am loved, and that Christ is with me. Press this deep into my heart, O loving Lord.

Pour out your grace and prepare the moment, to open hearts and minds. May your Spirit give me clarity and confidence, as I know I am a child of God.

And above all things, may your will be done. Let the moment glorify you. Prepare me, O Lord, and may my life praise Jesus, my Savior, my King.

Prayer to give thanks

Believe it or not, there is so much to give thanks for, no matter what situation you are living in.

For those who have been blessed with abundance, one of the best ways to show thanks is to share.

For those who suffer and hurt, the deepest thanks can be found in your relationship with Jesus.

If you think you have nothing to be thankful for, look at the cross of Christ for all your answers. Let your spirit be revived by the Resurrection, and all things will be made new.

Jesus is the path to thankfulness and freedom.

PRAYER TO GIVE THANKS

O blessed Lord,

You are the creator of heaven and earth. You are my creator. You gave me life.

Every blessing I have is the fruit of your goodness. All love comes from you through those who love me.

And when this weary soul fell down and out, you were there for me. When I hurt myself & others you took away my sin. Jesus took my shame. He hurt with me and never left my side.

He did it all for me. He did it all for love. And my heart and soul cry out in thanks and joy.

Even if my life isn’t perfect even if I have a long way to go, my soul is safe in your hands.

For your love O Lord, I give a thousand thanks.

Prayer to keep moving forward

Feeling stuck or spinning your wheels? Some situations seem like they will never change. Or maybe, you keep making the same mistake, over and over again.

If there is one thing the Gospels tell us, is that it’s never too late. Today is not the last chapter in your life. It might be difficult and painful, but you can keep going. When you cry out to God, he delivers. It may not be exactly as you want, but he will give you the strength to carry on. Trust in him. He never turns you away.

Return to the bedrock of your faith and rebuild from there. Get down to the basic elements of your relationship with God. Great truth and strength are found there. Then rise up with Christ and continue forward.

PRAYER TO KEEP MOVING FORWARD

O merciful Lord,

Strong winds rage against me. It’s hard to keep going. Do you see my struggle? Will you help me, O Lord?

Free me from the lie telling me I can’t do this. Show me again, O Lord, that your love makes all things new.

Let me draw from the storehouse of my faith to remember again who you are & who I am.

Jesus died and was buried. He rose from the dead. He ascended into heaven. He is seated at God’s right hand. He will come again in glory.

By the blood of Christ I am a child of God. Jesus is my life & salvation. Nothing can take you away from me.

Even with pain & struggle I can continue. I can go on. As in the love of Christ my weakness is strength. In God’s grace, I soar free.

Prayer to be vigilant

We all know the world is unpredictable. So how do you stay alert for any incoming danger?

You might think you have all the bases covered since things look good on the outside. Still, you could be leaving a door wide open for problems due to unresolved issues in your private life.

Remember, your actions speak the loudest. It doesn’t matter who sees or doesn’t see them. Your heart knows the truth. And your heart yearns for God to bring light and healing to your soul.

Let the the Kingdom of Heaven come to you and your life. Let the Lord put things in order. Stay close to him and be ready for anything. Always be waiting and watching for the coming of our Savior Jesus Christ.

PRAYER TO BE VIGILANT

O blessed Lord,

In this troubled world the challenges of life are not easy for me. I feel pressure from all sides. Help me remain ready. Keep me steady and sure.

Show me, O Lord, where I need to change first. Let me know that vigilance begins with keeping my own house clean.

May your Spirit guide me to have a solid testimony. I know it can’t be perfect, but let no sin remain hidden. I give up my shame to you.

In my hurting emptiness may your Spirit fill me. May Christ complete me. Let nothing stand between us. Keep me ready & awake to face the coming dawn.

In the Spirit, the enemy has no chance against me, as the blood of Christ has set this sinner free.

As your child I am ready, as Christ lives in me.

Prayer for everlasting hope

What are you hoping for right now? Many times we hope for something very specific, but things don’t always work out the way we hoped for.

This doesn’t mean you should lose hope. Still, to have everlasting hope, you might want to shift your focus. For instance, how strong is your hope in God’s mercy? Instead of focusing only on something earthly, eternal hope rests on heavenly promises. A firm hope in God’s plan answers the questions of the soul.

So yes, go ahead and hope for that job, a person to change their heart, or for a specific blessing to come to you. Be willing to wait on that hope. And always place your deepest, most intimate hope in something more profound. In God’s mercy, there is always hope.

PRAYER FOR EVERLASTING HOPE

O merciful Lord,

Here I am before you. I have nothing left. My resources & strength have left me.

Now, as I am empty, O Lord, and all my self-confidence slips away, I am left alone

waiting for you. And still, I remember…

When faced with my sin and shame, I had no hope. Then you showed me your great loving mercy. You gave me another chance, and my faith came alive. My hope for a better tomorrow was born.

So here I am again, O Lord, with nothing but my hope in my Lord Jesus Christ. I place my hope upon your eternal truths & promises. Make it everlasting, O Lord.

I place my hope in your mercy. I place my hope in the goodness of God.
