Love more

When facing a tough situation, you have four basic options:

  • Struggle alone
  • Get help
  • Run away
  • Wait for a miracle to happen
  • Grow

Sometimes, you can’t get much help, but it pays to ask around. Miracles don’t happen everyday, and God may choose not to make one. In all situations, we have to be steadfast in prayer, but some spiritual resources are already there for us if we know where to look.

Even though our abilities are limited and imperfect, we are God’s children. This means something in us contains a part of God. That’s where you can tap into when your energy and drive are exhausted.

God’s grace has no limit. Deepen your belief in this truth. When you let him do the heavy lifting, it’s a lot easier to love and serve. So go to God. Be filled with his loving grace.

LOVE MORE

In a struggle, a fight, under pressure. Never seeming to get a break. Even everyday chores weigh you down.

So what will you do?

Reaching out and up, you cry out to the Lord. Extend your mighty hand, you say. Deliver me. Save me. Set me free!

And you wait. You pray. And pray some more.

And God answers. He says,

… love more…

Dig down deep. It’s there. A vast storehouse of grace to help you as the Spirit lives in you.

Go, dear child of God, be like the Son.

Be a miracle. Love more.

And then you will be free.

Taking care

If you’ve ever owned a garden, you know it only thrives if you take care of it. Of course, you can’t make the plants grow on your own, but your attention counts. It’s the same with your faith life.

The enemy will try to snuff out your belief. The world will distract you with apparently more important things to do. Don’t believe those lies. Resist. Make the effort to cultivate your faith. Dedicate some time every day. It makes a big difference.

If God is your creator, and Jesus your Savior, don’t they deserve some quality time? The results are more clear thinking and peace in your heart. You resist temptation, and you’re more likely to show mercy. So keep the faith.

Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that in due time he may exalt you. Cast all your anxieties on him, for he cares about you. Be sober, be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking some one to devour. Resist him, firm in your faith, knowing that the same experience of suffering is required of your brotherhood throughout the world.

TAKING CARE

Oh blessed Lord,

In your infinite creation… you looked upon me. Why Lord?

You gave this little one faith. Healed the deep wound. The Spirit of Jesus rushed in. He is alive. And so am I.

I didn’t do anything to deserve my faith. I’m no better than any other. Still, you called me. And your grace let me know it was you.

Show me what to do with this gift, oh Lord.

Help me care for my faith.

Make me hungry for your Word.

Call me again and again to prayer.

Unite me to your Body.

Give me courage to proclaim the Gospel with charity and love.

None of this happens without you, as it all begins with you, and this gift called faith.

Freely given.

Christ rising up to give me new life.

This sinner reborn all for the glory of God.

Prayer to renew my hope

Feeling hopeless might be one of the worst sensations ever. You feel like there’s no solution, or you feel trapped. Or maybe you feel like you’ll never measure up.

When you feel this way, try to break free from putting your problems at the center of your attention. This doesn’t mean you should ignore important issues, but just lay them aside for a moment.

Talk to God. Let him pour out his healing forgiveness and mercy over you. Ask him to bring order to your thoughts and feelings. When you are restored and strong, you can return to the problem with a healthier perspective.

From the wounds of Christ we receive his peace. Never lose hope in our resurrected Lord.

PRAYER TO RENEW MY HOPE

Oh blessed Lord,

I see my life. Today. Now. Am I happy? Is this where I want to be? Is this who I want to be?

Today is a snapshot in time. Let me not be frozen here, oh Lord. This is not the last chapter in my life.

In all things, renew my hope.

I can change. So can others. Let me believe and trust in this. No matter how long it takes. Never perfect, may I move forward in the flow of your grace.

Let me see myself now, for who I truly am. No more hidden failures. No more empty dreams. Your victory planted in my soul.

Here, today, I rise up again with Christ.

One day I will be with you. One day I won’t even need hope any more. But for now, may my hope remain strong and free.

Free in knowing you are with me. You are my Master, my Lord.

My hope in Jesus keeps me going until heaven comes.

Prayer to be faith-full

We all want people to be faithful to us. Deep down, we all want to be faithful too. Still, sometimes we fail. This goes far beyond just letting someone down or doing something dishonest. There are lots of ways we can be unfaithful.

For example, just talking bad about someone is not being faithful. Even if someone does something wrong, you don’t have to tell the whole world about it. Some things are best left to be dealt with in  private. Even “harmless” teasing can hurt more than you think. Remember to protect the ones you love and don’t expose them.

Faithfulness can also apply to principles, not just people. In some cases, we have to stand up for what’s right and just.

So how do you avoid things that erode your faithfulness? It all returns to the example of the most faithful one of all. Jesus is the example and source of our faith and faithfulness. Seek him. Know him. And be faithful.

PRAYER TO BE FAITH-FULL

Oh heavenly Lord,

You felt it. They ignored you, looked away. They said they did not know you. They betrayed you with a kiss.

And for me, it cuts both ways.

I’ve felt it. People let me down, stab me in the back. And I even see myself walk by without even saying, “Hello”.

How many times have I denied you? Not caring for others, seeking my own gain, the know-it-all. I’m the thrice denying Peter and even Judas sometimes.

But still, I know…

Your grace pours down.

The heavens open up to me.

And your mercy sets me free.

You only give me love.

And despite the wounds and failures all around,

You are faithful always.

You did not protect your life. You gave it.

Help me, oh loving Christ, to forgive and to give. To have faith and remain faithful,

As my Lord is faithful to me.

Prayer for when life is hard

We all face difficult moments in life, but some have it really tough for a long time. In many circumstances, there’s no real way out. How can you deal with this?

It’s not easy, but the secret is an inner transformation. Yes, you can ask God to change situations, and it may even happen. Still, the Lord is more interested in your heart. He wants to transform you into the best version of yourself. God the Father wants all of his children to be more like his son Jesus.

Once you begin to truly understand the purpose and meaning behind this process, it’s miraculous. You see things from a heavenly perspective as God’s grace works in and through you. Trust and believe in this. Embrace your service and enter into the full blessings of the Lord.

PRAYER FOR WHEN LIFE IS HARD

Oh blessed Lord,

You know my situation. You know my life. It’s complicated and dense. There’s no way out. Why is this happening to me?

Oh loving Lord, help me. I need you so much right now.

Let me look upon the life and death of Jesus for understanding. He could have run away from the cross. Instead he served. He gave his life.

Let me know Christ, oh Lord. Help me understand that all the answers are in him. In knowing Jesus, I become more like him. I am transformed.

Service, suffering and pain transform into glory.

Only the Spirit can resurrect me.

Nobody sees how I struggle. Nobody but you, oh merciful Lord. Show me the freedom in giving it all up to you. Jesus loved his Father and all humankind. That’s why he suffered and bled.

He gave it all for them. For me.

May the Spirit of God reveal to me a deeper hope and joy in giving my life for others.

Lift up and hold this poor spirit, oh loving Lord.

Let me know that in your arms, I have all I need.

In Jesus name,

Amen.

Prayer to rise up

Dragged down by the worries and troubles of life? Having faith doesn’t mean easy solutions. Instead, faith in God answers questions that burn deep in your heart. This goes beyond people and circumstances. It let’s you move forward even in the most difficult situations.

A relationship with Jesus is never superficial. You might struggle to accept certain things, and that’s understandable. Still, Jesus’ example speaks to us in a place that goes beyond the present moment… even beyond the pain. Or maybe it helps us understand the pain in a new way.

The fruit of this process – of trusting and depending more on God – is heavenly. It makes your character strong. It gives you clarity and direction. And the Spirit guides you to be a blessing and messenger of salvation. It’s God’s mercy living in and through you.

PRAYER TO RISE UP

Oh heavenly Lord,

Here I am. Once more before you. Only you know my true, intimate self. Time and again you show me.

Give me the confidence now, oh Lord, to open myself up to you. Help me to be humble.

At your feet, I place my worry, my fear… my pain.

Take it all, Jesus. Help me to surrender it to you. Let me give up my worry into your wounds.

Show me what it means in a deeper way. Let me know the mind of God as it applies to my heart and soul.

Unite me to you, oh Lord. Here I find healing. Here I am strong.

I rest in you. I depend on you. I trust you.

Christ shows me the depths of the Lord’s love for me. My place as a child of God is indestructible. Nobody can take me from your hand.

Cast out all despair, oh mighty God. Let your Spirit rush in. Give me clarity and courage.

For I am yours. I am loved by God.

With Jesus Christ I rise up,

And I fly fee.

Button pusher prayer

Is there someone in your life that bothers you? Someone that makes you see red? We all have people in our lives that push our buttons and get us to overreact.

Still, even if their actions are inappropriate or very wrong, it’s important to check your heart.

Remember, as a child of God, things are different. You don’t have to let rage consume you. You don’t have to let another person influence and control your heart. Instead, your rest and peace depend on the only one that is perfect: Jesus.

Don’t let the enemy manipulate your emotions and reactions. Instead, focus on how God wants you to understand things – especially yourself. Remain in a healthy, centered place. Stay focused on God’s word. See his hand at work everywhere – even if it’s not how you like it.

Why do you see the speck that is in your brother’s eye, but do not notice the log that is in your own eye? Or how can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when there is the log in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take the speck out of your brother’s eye.

Matthew 7:3-5

But love your enemies, and do good, and lend, expecting nothing in return; and your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High; for he is kind to the ungrateful and the selfish. Be merciful, even as your Father is merciful.

BUTTON PUSHER PRAYER

Oh blessed Lord,

Where do these people come from? Why do they cross my path? The ones that drive me crazy. They bring out the worst in me.

They way they act, think and talk makes my blood boil. Who do they think they are? Where’s the meaning here, oh Lord?

When I get mad, I might say, “I could just kill so-and-so.” What’s going on in my heart?

Could it be I see my shadow there? Or a light you send to tell me, “Here’s where you need healing and help.”

Give me understanding. Yes, they may be wrong, but who am I to condemn? Who do I think I am?

Put my heart in your hands, oh Lord. Show me again that heaven is a gift, not a right.

Help me not to become an even bigger monster than the ones that make me mad.

Yes, I can be firm. Yes, I can be confident. I might even get angry sometimes.

But not at the cost of anyone’s soul. Not theirs. Not mine.

Keep me. Bless me. And bless them too.

In Jesus name, Amen.

Grace pours in

The way you understand your mistakes can evolve over time. At first, you might feel like a failure. Over time, if you seek God’s presence, you can gain a deeper understanding.

You see, God isn’t a school teacher – he’s our loving Creator. He doesn’t just want us to learn how to behave well. Instead, his Spirit guides us along a more profound journey.

Jesus proved God’s love to you. Return to him when you do something wrong. Let him show you how to open your heart to receive the full mercy of God.

GRACE POURS IN

Dear loving Lord,

I’ve been down this road before, but this time  it’s different.

I fall down into temptation. I make a mess.

Before I would get sad, since I wasn’t perfect.

Now – after smacking my head so many times – I know.

It’s the hurt. That’s the problem. The wounds I cause to others, to me… to you. Yes, I let myself down, but this matters less  to me now. I think more about nails and hands and feet.

I want to change. I want to be free.

Isn’t that what you want for me?

And the enemy blocks my way saying, “See? You can’t do it. You should give up already. You’re too weak.”

And I say, “Yes. You’re right. I’m weak. But my mighty God doesn’t care. Instead, he gives me a second chance.

That’s what a good Father does for his child.”

And the enemy flees,

As grace pours in.

Prayer to be bold in Christ

Sometimes we might think being bold means calling attention to ourselves. But being bold in the Lord means having courage thanks to your faith. An impenetrable faith – in a God that loves you – makes you bold.

What does this do for you?

Boldness helps you with everyday challenges, especially when you get tired. It helps you when you face intense struggles that come from your own failures or from outside attacks. Being bold helps you when you have to stand up for yourself or for others.

Perhaps the most important place where we should be bold is when we share the Gospel message. This doesn’t mean you are pushy or loud, but you speak with confidence.  Your words reveal the joy in being a child of God – and that your identity is indestructible. Your words are saturated with the love of Jesus Christ.

PRAYER TO BE BOLD IN CHRIST

Oh heavenly Lord,

You are my hope and truth. So I come to you now as I need strength. The enemy lies and tries to bring me down saying, “All is lost. It’s not worth it. This is too much for you.”

Shut his mouth, oh Lord. Silence his lies.

Rise up, oh Lord, rise up! Strike down the enemy. Cast him out and restore me.

May your Spirit once again lift up this sinner and put me on my feet.

Firm. Steady. Solid. Standing on the foundation that is my Messiah, the Christ.

May I be responsible, energetic and quick. Let the courage of Christ fill me and prepare me.

By your grace alone I proclaim, “I am your child. I am not afraid!”

Strong. Complete. Bold in the Lord.

In the name of Christ Jesus,

Amen.
