We all have our challenges and struggles. Sometimes what we have to deal with in our own lives seems to be more than we can handle. Still, as followers of Christ, how should we respond to those in need?

Jesus set the bar very high by asking us to love even our enemies. The parable of the Good Samaritan is another example. And what was the example of Jesus? Give until it hurts.

Ask yourself: Do you only give when it’s convenient and comfortable? Do you only give to your family? Where else can you see the image of Jesus in need?

Our world is complex and many suffer. We can decide how we want to make changes. If we follow the example of our Lord, we can see how he:

• Helped with the most urgent needs
• Helped on a one-on-one basis
• Encouraged his disciples to help as a team
• Linked the Gospel message to acts of compassion

Are we, as the Body of Christ doing the same thing? If not, why not?

Let it start with asking God to change our hearts and show us the way. Then, let his love manifest in our lives through concrete action. Move out of your zone of comfort and move into a place of blessings.

PRAYER TO GIVE MORE

O heavenly Lord,

You delivered me out of the pit of despair. I owe my life to you. What can I possibly give in return?

Help me to see, O Lord, with the eyes of Christ. Show me where I can help, where I can give.

Show me your face in the face of those in need. Do not let the worries of this world harden my heart. Remind me how much I am blessed, how much I am loved.

Then teach my heart, O Lord, to give as you give and to love as you love.

In this way, Christ lives in me.

Show me how, O Lord, as you are my faith and my salvation.

I pray in the name of Jesus,
