It’s not uncommon to feel distant from God. The best thing to do when this happens is to be sincere about it. Everyone at some time can feel far from God. So what can you do to get closer?
A lot of it depends on your life situation. Have you been walking in your faith for a long time, or are you new in your belief? Where you are now is important to consider, but a common thread exists in nearly every case.
When you feel far from God, it’s always an invitation to get closer and to trust more. It can be challenging, but that’s because the rewards are heavenly. Getting closer to God means understanding in a deeper way who you are, where you came from, and where you are headed. It means making sense of your history and your wounds.
If sin is separating you from God, ask for forgiveness, and let the blood of Christ wash you clean.
If you need to trust God more, then ask his Holy Spirit to help you.
And if you are called to give or love more, then seek God’s presence. Let his grace give you the humility, courage, and perseverance to be more Christ-like.
It’s all fueled by the love of God. So receive it thankfully. It’s there for you always.

PRAYER FOR WHEN YOU FEEL FAR FROM GOD
O loving Lord,
Here I am before you even though I feel far away. I want to get closer, but at the same time I resist.
Is my heart wounded? Am I’m afraid to let it all go into your hands?
Deep down my soul cries out, “Save me! O merciful Lord”.
Let this moment be a time of inner growth. May I learn and understand the deeper mysteries of faith. May the Spirit of Christ show me the heart of Jesus. May I love despite the struggle, beyond the silence.
Purify my heart, O Lord.
Reveal to me your most excellent way, the way my Savior loves me, even alone on the cross, glorifying you in heaven.

I have an adult daughter who has Type I diabetes who has cared very poorly for herself, most of this due to her bipolar disorder. Every day my family worries about the long term consequences which she is sure to experience going forward. Please pray for her.
I also have a dear 85 year old friend who has been fighting cancer for the past 3 years and I pray for God to steer this in the right direction, whether that means for her to be cured, or to pass away so she doesn’t have to keep going through these very difficult to endure treatments.
