Everybody faces challenges, but some are especially difficult. Sometimes you may not have much more to depend on beyond God’s word and prayer. The secret is that in those resources you’ll find the most important answers. It’s not just a “spiritual thing”. When you seek God’s guidance, you have greater strength and clarity to make decisions. And if it is his will, you might even experience a miracle.

This doesn’t mean you should not seek help. Talk to a trusted friend, pastor or priest. Seek professionals or organizations that might help your situation. For instance, many have written in saying they are, or might end up, homeless. Here are two sites that can help:

Are looking to grow spiritually? Are you sure you’re ready? Even though we should all seek growth, it might be a good idea to examine our motives first. Do you want to grow spiritually to have more influence or control? Do you want to grow in order to avoid pain? Or do you want to grow so you can love more and serve more — even if it comes at the cost of suffering?

Growth means being renewed. It’s taking all your knowledge, experience and failures and giving it up to a new stage of life. If you entrust this process to God and rest in his ways, then growth is guaranteed.

It’s a day-to-day process. It’s tearing down your personal ideologies and letting the Spirit of God be fully expressed. Be a “grown up” child of God, and bring forth an abundant harvest.

PRAYER FOR SPIRITUAL GROWTH

Oh loving Lord,

I’ve come this far, what now? The first steps in your presence were heavenly.

Then life returns. It still hurts. Are you just a dream?

Then I stop and think of you, of what you did for me.

How you know me and love me despite my shame and failure.

I remember your glory shown to me so many times. And your Spirit rises up in me again, for you are generous and good.

Renew me, oh Lord. Let me return to the first love, Christ forever in my heart.

May it be a new beginning. Let me accept and understand in a deeper way, oh Lord, what you plan for me.

May I return to your cross to be cleansed again – and to know what it means to carry mine.

You are my Lord. You are faithful.

By your grace alone I can be faithful too.

Is worldly pressure trying to rob you of your identity? Sometimes we are under so much stress that we forget completely about ourselves. Maybe you’re too busy. Or perhaps people want to control you. In the end you might lose a sense of who you are.

When this happens, return to the basics. Think about what’s really most important to you. Re-establish your core roles. Above all, build upon your identity as a child of God. This means spending time in his presence. So seek him.

Time spent with God allows you to understand and feel his love for you. You begin to realize how much you mean to him. The Lord’s faithfulness gives you confidence to be yourself.

PRAYER FOR ME TO BE MYSELF

Oh heavenly Lord,

Why am I so unsatisfied? Why is it so hard for me to be me? Yes, I have sinned against you. I know you forgive me. But there’s something else.

I reject myself even though Jesus doesn’t.

So I ask you, oh loving Lord, give me a heart like Christ’s. Help me accept myself for who I am, here, now. Free me from my desire to copy others and please everyone else.

I want to be a better me. Show me what’s really mine. My faults, my virtues. Then mold me, oh Lord, shape me and make me confident as a child of God.

And may it all manifest in acts of kindness, mercy and love. Let my life glorify you, oh Lord, and bring more souls to your heavenly banquet.

By your grace alone,

If you feel like giving thanks, then let it all out. Praise our heavenly Lord! When God reveals his kindness in a special way, you just have to raise your arms and give thanks and praise.

Even if you don’t feel particularly good, give praise to God anyway. Many times Scripture shows us how God’s people overcame challenges by giving praise. Even when their backs were against the wall, their greatest spiritual weapon was to praise Almighty God.

When you feel it, do it. And even when you don’t feel like it, do it anyway. God is worthy, and he will respond.

PRAYER OF THANKS AND PRAISE

Oh my loving Lord,

My heart bursts with joy as you have blessed me. All I had to do was say “yes” to your love. And then came the outpouring of your Spirit over me.

Yes, there are trials and struggle and pain.

But above and through it all,

Giving meaning to it all,

Is my mighty Savior, my Christ, my Lord.

My soul rests in you. I’m nourished and full. And when the difficulty comes, I am ready. I am strong. For the Word of God burns in my heart.

I need nothing more. I have it all – the love of God given to me in great abundance. Come what may, my soul is content. For I know who I am and where I’m going.

The promise of God gives me life everlasting.
