You call out to me

Very few things are constant in the world. People and situations change all the time — but God’s Word is eternal.

When you struggle or doubt, nothing helps you as much as reading the Bible. Sometimes even prayer isn’t the best option since you might be confused. God’s Word is stable. You have it right there in front of your eyes. When you read the Word, you receive clarity and purpose. Then later – in prayer – the message sinks in deep.

When things get tough, stop what you are doing and open up your Bible. You might not want to, but do it anyway. It’s miraculous how the Scriptures can restore you.

Reading the Bible should be part of your everyday routine. God’s living Word is Jesus Christ. It’s a wonderful mystery. When you read the Holy Scriptures, your soul gets fed directly by the Son of God.

You call out to me

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God; all things were made through him, and without him was not anything made that was made. In him was life, and the life was the light of men. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.

John 1:1-5

And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, full of grace and truth; we have beheld his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father.

John 1:14

Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me; for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.

Matthew 11:28-30

Prayer to get close to another

The mystery of human relationships never ends. You want to get closer, but you can’t. You need to feel accepted and understood, but the distance stays the same. No matter what you do, no matter how hard you try and pray, it seems like things will never change.

Instead of looking for a change between the two of you, seek God’s comfort first. When you receive his peace, you can understand things more clearly. This doesn’t mean you should stop trying, but love demands nothing in return. Keep the door open and wait — this will bring you closer.

Wait for those you love. Wait upon the Lord. Rest in his promises. And when the time comes, he will open up the heavens and pour his loving grace over you.

Prayer to get close to another

Love is patient and kind; love is not jealous or boastful; it is not arrogant or rude. Love does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrong, but rejoices in the right. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.

Prayer for confidence

The world tells you to believe in yourself and that you can do it. But what happens when your confidence is shaken? What happens when you hit a wall, and it seems like nothing can help you get up again? Or maybe you’re facing a raging storm of problems that just won’t let up. Then self-doubt creeps in, and things get even worse.

In these moments, it helps to return to some basic truths. Dig down to the bedrock, find your footing, and make a stand.

Return to your identity as God’s child. This is the only thing nobody can take away from you. Start building on that indestructible truth. Return to the Cross and the Resurrection. Remember Christ died and was buried for you. He rose again on the third day. Ascending up to heaven, he sits on his throne in glory.

Remember these truths. Reclaim the promises of God. Then let the Spirit of Truth fill you with confidence.

Prayer for confidence

I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish, and no one shall snatch them out of my hand. My Father, who has given them to me,[a] is greater than all, and no one is able to snatch them out of the Father’s hand. I and the Father are one.

John 10:28-30

Therefore let us be grateful for receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, and thus let us offer to God acceptable worship, with reverence and awe; for our God is a consuming fire.

Beloved, let us love one another; for love is of God, and he who loves is born of God and knows God.He who does not love does not know God; for God is love.In this the love of God was made manifest among us, that God sent his only Son into the world, so that we might live through him.In this is love, not that we loved God but that he loved us and sent his Son to be the expiation for our sins.Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. No man has ever seen God; if we love one another, God abides in us and his love is perfected in us.

Prayer for a family in crisis

Does it feel like your home is a war zone? Or maybe there’s a deep silence. Many families around the world face problems that seem impossible to overcome. If there is any place the enemy prefers to attack, it’s the family.

Situations don’t always turn out the way you like. Accept this and seek how you can change to make things better. If you’re full of the Spirit, you’ll transmit the goodness of God to all those around you. Your suffering has a purpose. It may be mysterious and invisible to the world — but when your heart rests firmly in Jesus, he reveals his glory to you.

No matter how dark things seem, try to keep a long term perspective. Don’t predict doom and failure. Instead, lift your eyes up to heaven and regain hope. Believe in the prophecy of Christ resurrected.

Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage; be not frightened, neither be dismayed; for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.

Joshua 1:9

And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Behold, the dwelling of God is with men. He will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself will be with them;he will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning nor crying nor pain any more, for the former things have passed away.”

And he who sat upon the throne said, “Behold, I make all things new.”

Prayer to love God first

Why do we put such a huge burden on people? We expect them to give us the peace our hearts desire. Isn’t God the only one that can do this? Still, we place others on a pedestal — and when they fail — we break down or get angry. Is it fair to put this kind of pressure on anyone’s shoulders? You might even do this to yourself — expecting the perfection that only Jesus delivers to your soul.

This doesn’t mean that we can’t trust or depend on others. It doesn’t mean we won’t get hurt. That’s all part of being human. But when the deepest inner core of your being rests in Christ alone, you receive a peace that goes far beyond people and circumstances. It all begins with loving God above all things.

Jesus answered, “The first is, ‘Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one; and you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind, and with all your strength.’ The second is this, ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no other commandment greater than these.”

Mark 12:29-31

“If any one comes to me and does not hate his own father and mother and wife and children and brothers and sisters, yes, and even his own life, he cannot be my disciple. Whoever does not bear his own cross and come after me, cannot be my disciple.

Prayer for true humility

How often do we use the excuse of being humble to escape God’s call? Instead of asking, “Who me?” maybe you should ask, “Why not me?” Many times the enemy tricks us into thinking we’re being humble when we really just want to avoid conflict. While we shouldn’t pick fights for nothing, sometimes the Spirit picks fights for us that require determination.

The key to this process means seeking and understanding God’s will. Seek his presence and let his Word show you the right thing to do. Get strength and confidence from the Spirit, and ask for his blessing. Then go forth and do what you have to do. When you trust in the Lord, everything will be a blessing to you and will glorify Christ Jesus.

“Blessed are the poor in spirit,
for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Blessed are those who mourn,
for they will be comforted.
Blessed are the meek,
for they will inherit the earth.
Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness,
for they will be filled.
Blessed are the merciful,
for they will be shown mercy.
Blessed are the pure in heart,
for they will see God.
Blessed are the peacemakers,
for they will be called children of God.
Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness,
for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

“Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me. Rejoice and be glad, because great is your reward in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you.”

Prayer for the desire to pray

Are you praying less than you used to? Or maybe you never even started. Remember, prayer is the key to organizing your thoughts — which is the key to bringing order to your life. And it’s not just any order – it’s the heavenly Kingdom of God.

Still, it’s hard to find time to pray. You have to fight for these moments. The enemy will do everything in his power to stop you. But when you get on your knees in prayer you are fed by the Creator. You grow in grace. And you see with the eyes of Christ. Could anything be more worthwhile?
